Random Acts of Kindness Week

The art of being kind is all the world needs. – Ella Wheeler Wilcox

It costs nothing to be kind ♥️ National Random Acts of Kindness Week is the week of February 13th through the 19th. It’s a week dedicated to kindness and taking that extra, conscious step to brighten somebody’s day.

I love everything about this, especially in this age where it is so easy to move along throughout the day unconsciously from one task to another. Often times, I find myself plugging away and not stopping long enough to appreciate those around me who make my life amazing or even appreciating myself and how I have grown over the years.

This week on my blog, I am sharing a few things that I enjoy doing that cost nothing and spreads kindness all around. Take a look and maybe you’ll be inspired of ways you can encourage others around you too.

Show Kindness to Others!

Here are just a few amazing (and free) ways you can encourage those you come in contact with:

Have you recently read a book that changed your life in such a positive way? Think about someone in your friend or family circle who might be interested in that topic and give them the gift of new inspiration!

Give the gift of literacy. I love going to the library and picking out a good book to read. If you have any old books laying around, donate them to your local library for others to enjoy!

Do you have a favorite local business? Think of creative ways you can share them with your community. Some ideas include: leave them a positive Google review, buy a gift card to give out, or simply say thank you in person!

Send some good vibes to someone’s inbox and brighten their day! It’s always good to the heart and soul to receive encouragement. Why not think of someone right now you can send encouragement to and write a quick note.

Be kind to yourself!

Sometimes we can be our own worst critics. I think it is just as important to be kind to yourself as it is to show kindness to others. When your cup is overflowing with positivity, the only thing it can do is overflow to others.

For several years, I was stuck in a defeating shame cycle of depression, no energy, and then being hard on myself. I decided to turn the tables and learn something new. I picked up a camera, set goals for learning and have never looked back. Every year, I set a few goals to achieve and then break them down quarterly and weekly. By doing this, I no longer had time to focus on my depression and eventually it lifted. Sometimes, setting goals can be overwhelming, but one important thing to remember is PROGRESS > PERFECTION. If you are moving forward, you can’t get stuck!

A few years ago, when I was just learning how to use my camera, I began attending Camera Club with the Flourish Academy. Initially, I joined for photography purposes but over the course of several years, I have developed some amazing friendships and even have accountability partners for my business. Everyone should have a community of people in their tribe who lift them up and encourage them.

My favorite place is anywhere near water. I love hearing the waves crash along the shore of the beach and feeling the sand between my toes. I also love the sound of mountain streams trickling over rocks. Either way, it is good for my soul to be outside and connecting with the Creator. Do you have a favorite spot that brings peace? I encourage you to visit it as often as possible. When I need to re-center, I know exactly what I must do to reconnect and quiet my soul.

You probably thought I tried riding in a Hot Air Balloon. Good guess, I am afraid of heights 🤣 Trying something new in this case, was photographing hot air balloons when they are lit up, which is especially challenging when dusk sets in. Maybe someday I will overcome the fear of heights, but until then learning new photography tricks will have to do. How about you? Do you have a bucket list item you want to do? How about set a goal to achieve it this year.
