A good rule of thumb is to choose artwork that’s ½ to ¾ the width of the wall or furniture it will hang above. When placing art over a sofa or console, aim for about 60–75% of the furniture’s width (roughly two-thirds is usually perfect).

For gallery walls, treat the entire grouping as one piece and follow the same sizing guideline for the overall width.

Hang artwork 6–8 inches above furniture so it feels connected. On an empty wall, place the center of the piece at eye level — about 57–60 inches from the floor.
